Church Muralist Jeremy Sams

Jeremy Sams is a Christian artist from Archdale, North Carolina. He was raised in Farmer, N.C., with the Uwharrie Mountains and a country setting as his surrounding landscape.

Jeremy was born in 1977. He recognized his God-given talent for painting at the age of 16. "It is my goal as an artist to replicate the beauty of God's creation and capture the majesty of His handiwork through painting. He is the ultimate artist and it is my obligation and privilege to honor Him with my work."

He has been featured in many news publications including: The Winston-Salem Journal, The Courier Tribune, The High Point Enterprise, The Thomasville Times, The Denton Orator, The Randolph Guide, The Newton Observer, and The Archdale-Trinity News. Jeremy has also won awards for his artwork such as: the Randolph County Superintendant's Choice Award, and the Paul Green Multimedia Award, presented by the North Carolina Society of Historians, Inc. 

Jeremy's artwork can be seen in art galleries, churches, homes, businesses, and restaurants. His work ranges from portraits on canvas, landscapes, still-lifes, murals on walls, ceilings, floors, faux finishes, and even furniture. Acrylic and latex are his preferred medium.

Techniques of Community Murals

When starting a mural project a wall is often pre-selected by the sponsoring organization. Ideally, the artist will be consulted to help select an appropriate site for a mural.

Artists also sometimes search independently for a location to create a self-sponsored project. The artist conceives of an idea, identifies a wall, secures permission, and paints the mural as a gift to the surrounding community. Another process that can work well is for an artist to have an inspiration about a possible project for a place and then to involve community members and organizations in sponsoring the mural.

Local Artist’s Church Murals Showcased

Morehead United Methodist Church members are fortunate to claim artist Joe Sartor as one of their own. As a gift to his church and especially to the children of the church, Dr. Sartor has conceived and painted the entire Creation Story in the hallway of the Education Building. These brightly colored masterpieces in the hallway take you from the beginning of time, and as you enter various classrooms, through several Bible parables with a few surprises along the way.
